NAWBO INSTALLS 2010-2011 BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Ceremony In Washington DC is a Highlight of NAWBO’s Leadership Summit and 35th Anniversary Celebration
(Washington, DC, June 9, 2010)— For members, partners and affiliates of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), the annual Board of Directors installation ceremony is a highly regarded event. But for this year’s Board, it was even more significant as they were installed today in Washington, D.C., where the organization was founded 35 years ago and where it continues to advocate today as the powerful voice of women business owners.
The installing officer was Virginia Littlejohn, a NAWBO past president who was a driving force behind the lobbying that led to the passage of the Women’s Business Ownership Act of 1988 (HR 5050). The installation ceremony was a highlight of the NAWBO Leadership Summit that preceded the 2010 Women’s Business Conference that attracts hundreds of U.S. and global women entrepreneurs.
“NAWBO’s 2010-2011 Board of Directors truly epitomizes the Power of One where one woman, one business and one collective voice can make a difference and build a legacy for the next generation of women entrepreneurs,” says President and CEO Helen Han. “I am honored to have the opportunity to work with these remarkable women who share a profound commitment to the success of NAWBO and the women’s entrepreneurial community at large.”
NAWBO’s mission is to propel women entrepreneurs into economic, social and political spheres of power worldwide by:
- Strengthening the wealth creating capacity of its members and promoting economic development within the entrepreneurial community
- Creating innovative and effective change in the business culture
- Building strategic alliances, coalitions and affiliations Transforming public policy and influencing opinion makers
The 2010-2011 Board will no doubt focus on furthering this mission in the months ahead. “NAWBO has impacted game-changing legislation, such as HR 5050, the Women’s Business Ownership Act, and testified to the House and Senate to oppose specific restrictions and limitations of the SBA’s women-owned business set-aside program. Most recently, NAWBO weighed in to effect positive change in federal contracting for women. As NAWBO’s Chair, I look forward to continuing to help shape the future of America’s 10 million women-owned businesses,” said newly installed Chair Kelly Scanlon, president & CEO of Thinking Bigger Business Media, Inc. in Kansas City. The business offers a variety of media products dedicated to advocating small business and helping business owners take their companies to the next level of growth.
