NAWBO :: Best Practice: Written 'job description' for committees

Best Practice: Written 'job description' for committees

Chapter: NAWBO Greater Detroit

Contact: Judy Latcha, jal@latchdesign.com

Goal: In an attempt to clarify committee position responsibilities, NAWBO Greater Detroit wrote job descriptions for each of their committees.

Implementation: Each committee position has a charge, objective, task list, and a person that they answer to. The descriptions are kept simple, short, and sweet. Their roles and description piggy back on the Chapter’s Policies and Procedures, and Strategic Plan.

Results: Having written descriptions of each committee position helps to clarify responsibilities. When members are assigned a position they know exactly what they should be doing. It also helps clears communication channels since the committee members are made aware of whom they should be reporting to.
