To the Next Level and Beyond

An American fitness industry entrepreneur once said, “Get comfortable being uncomfortable, that’s how you break the plateau and reach the next level.”

As women entrepreneurs, we are always thinking about our “next level.” For some, it might mean taking out a loan to start your business, hiring your first employee or leasing office space. For others, it’s reaching the $1 million or more mark in annual revenue, launching new products and services, expanding into new territories or even taking your business global.

Sure, the journey to reaching your next level might feel uncomfortable at times, but it’s always worth it in the end. In fact, a recent article in Forbes magazine says that feeling uncomfortable is the key to success. “While it may not feel like it in the moment, a little bit of discomfort goes a long way in terms of personal development. No one likes feeling uncomfortable, but it’s a big part of improving your performance, creativity and learning in the long run.” The article goes on to say that putting yourself in new and unfamiliar situations triggers a unique part of the brain that releases the natural happiness chemical dopamine. “Here’s the mind-blower; that unique region of the brain is only activated when you see or experience completely new things.”

So, go ahead and plot your course to the next level. Dream big. Be confident and never underestimate your potential. Network, network, network. Get feedback to validate and enhance your business ideas. Keep learning and growing. Surround yourself with smart people and resources. Be authentic. Be an expert in something. Don’t hesitate to ask for what you need. Support one another and don’t go it alone.
