Participants will be exposed to a simple illustration that will challenge them to think about culture in a fresh, new way. The audience will be challenged to reflect on their personal role in building a drama-free workplace; one where everyone thrives.

10:45-11:30am  Managing Personalities, Conflict and other Road Blocks to Successful Board Leadership, Presented by Candice Gottleib Clark

Creating a successful NAWBO Chapter takes strong leadership and a cohesive Board.  But the skills which make each member a successful entrepreneur, are different than the leadership skills needed in the role of Board Member.  Discover ways to support the success of your NAWBO Chapter, while learning skills that will build your relationships both within and beyond this organization.

This program will teach:

  • Techniques that encourage participation
  • Strategies for building consensus and collaborative decision making
  • Skills for proactively managing conflict


Katie11:30am-12:30pm  A Quick Guide to Effective Board Management, Presented by Katie Adams Farrell

This session will provide an essential overview of best practices for Board management and governance for NAWBO chapters. Topics include Board structure, recruitment, financial responsibility, conflicts of interest, and more. It will answer common questions from active and prospective Board members like "What is my role?" and "How can I bring the most value?" 


  • Tips on structuring your Board and running effective meetings
  • Governance and compliance best practices (filing your 990, Conflict of Interest statement)
  • Strategies for assigning roles that will keep your Board members engaged

There’s a familiar phrase, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Leaders with who care demonstrate empathy, a form of social awareness and a critical component in building emotional intelligence. They sense others’ emotions, understand their perspectives, and take an active interest in their concerns. This builds engagement and connection with employees and members. Learn the four traits of empathyto become a leader who CAREs.
