NAWBO National Sends Delegation of Women Entrepreneurs to Nicaragua on Opportunity International Insight Trip

NAWBO National members traveling to Nicaragua to see microlending and microsavings programs first-hand

(Washington, D.C. November 21, 2017)—The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) is sending a delegation of 5 women business owners on an Insight Trip to Nicaragua.  The trip, which will commence on November 27, is part of NAWBO’s international partnership with Opportunity International. The Opportunity Network is made up of 48 organizations, 39 of which are microfinance institutions (program partners) operating in Africa, Eastern Europe, Central and East Asia and Latin America.

“NAWBO is proud to announce this inaugural trip to Nicaragua with Opportunity International,” said Kathy Warnick, NAWBO National Board Chair. “During the visit attendees, including myself, will meet with local business owners and learn more first-hand about the training and education Opportunity is providing in country.”

Opportunity International’s impact in Nicaragua includes 296 students, 1,165 farmers, and more than 800 people now able to access clean water.

“So many of our NAWBO members are interested in enlarging their vision, expanding their borders and giving back to women business owners.  We are proud to offer this Insight Trip which will allow them to do so,” said Loreen Gilbert, Chair-Elect of the NAWBO Institute for Entrepreneurial Development National Board.  “I have seen first-hand how lending a hand up through microlending and microsavings programs is a perpetual gift that keeps on giving. We are very grateful for our partnership with Opportunity International and are united in our belief that we can change the world, one woman business owner at a time.”

NAWBO hopes to offer the Opportunity International Insight Trip as an annual experience.
