Negotiating - Women Can Play That Game Too!

As service providers, many women business owners struggle to ask for high prices, feeling overly concerned about the financial welfare of their prospects or clients. As a result, women earn significantly less than their male counterparts. Research shows that almost 90% of all women owned businesses make less than $100,000 of gross revenue per year! The gender income gap exists because women allow it to happen. Women tend to be overly concerned about the financial well being of their prospects, instead of focusing on the value they provide and their own financial well being. Understanding the art of negotiations can help shift the focus and enable female entrepreneurs to make more money and feel valued for the expertise they provide.

1. Know what you are worth (don’t undersell yourself)

2. Negotiations are part of the game of business

3. Aim high and settle for more than you initially thought you’d get

4. Do your homework

5. Know your differentiating factors – why are you the right person for the job
