NAWBO National Applauds INSPIRE Women Act Becoming Law

NAWBO National Supports Law Encouraging More Women to Pursue STEM Careers

(Washington, D.C. February 28, 2017)—The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) is pleased to see the INSPIRE Women Act become law.  The INSPIRE Women Act authorizes the NASA Administrator to encourage young women to study science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and to pursue careers that will further advance America’s space science and exploration efforts.

“Women account for less than 25% of the STEM workforce.  We will continue to work with elected officials and our NAWBO members to find ways to encourage women and girls to close this gap,” said Teresa Meares, NAWBO National Board Chair.  “NAWBO was the first advocacy organization for all women business owners.  In the 42 years since our founding, our predecessors left us a legacy to be proud of.  We will continue their work and pursue opportunities to get more women and girls into STEM fields.”

The INSPIRE Women Act was sponsored by Congresswoman Barbara Comstock in the U.S. House and Senator Dean Heller in the U.S. Senate.  The bill, which enjoyed bipartisan support in Congress, was signed into law by President Trump today.
