NAWBO National Submits Support for Comprehensive Tax Reform

NAWBO National, the first advocacy organization for women business owners, supports reforming the tax code

(Washington, D.C. March 9, 2017)—The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) is announcing their support for comprehensive tax reform.  In a letter submitted to Representative Kevin Brady, Chairman of the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee, NAWBO asserts the need for comprehensive tax reform that understands the important role businesses of all sizes play in creating jobs and growing our nation’s economy.

“Women business owners are a diverse and strong subset of our nation’s business community and a significant contributor to our nation’s economy,” said Teresa Meares, NAWBO National Board Chair in the letter to Chairman Brady.  “We see firsthand within our membership the need for comprehensive tax reform and are confident our economy would reap the benefits of such reform.”

According to the American Express OPEN/Womenable 2015 Report, there are more than 9.4 million businesses owned by women. These women business owners employ nearly 7.9 million people, and generate $1.5 trillion in sales as of 2015. Women-owned firms (51% or more) account for 30% of all privately held firms and contribute 14% of employment and 12% of revenues.
