Shop Small on November 25th

Show Love For Your Favorite Local Shops

Think about how many small businesses surround you in your everyday life—through NAWBO and throughout your community. Now think about the amount of time, commitment, labor and financial resources these hard-working small business owners contribute to make their businesses both come to life and stay alive. Whether you are one of them or started small and grew, you know why it’s so important to support the small and local businesses that fuel our nation’s economy by shopping small this Small Business Saturday—on November 25th—and all year long.

American Express sponsored the first Small Business Saturday event in 2010, in partnership with the non-profit National Trust for Historic Preservation, Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Roslindale Village Main Street. American Express also put their marketing engine behind it, promoting Small Business Saturday on nationwide radio and television and through public relations and social media channels. Partners, like NAWBO, have also joined in over the years to help increase awareness and encourage support for shopping at small businesses.

You can get involved, too, this year. Here’s how:

1. Shop small and local on Small Business Saturday and throughout this holiday season. Have breakfast at your neighborhood coffee shop and then head to your favorite local stores to shop for gifts. Pick up something for yourself, too, while you’re there. And don’t forget the online small businesses.

2. Tell your friends and family about it on social media. Be sure to use the hashtags #smallbusinesssaturday and #smallbizsaturday. Also, get the latest news and resources for helping to promote the event on the official Facebook page, Twitter page and Instagram page.

3. Access customizable marketing materials or download ready-to-use materials for your physical or online shop through the official Shop Small Studio.

4. Get information, how-to videos and articles on the Shop Small website so you can make the most of this year’s holiday.

On Small Business Saturday in 2016, 112 million shoppers showed their love for their favorite spots, and spent a reported $15.4 billion at small businesses. Let’s all do our part to help make the 2017 event even more successful!

One Partner, One Small Business Revolution

Deluxe, a sponsor partner of this year’s National Women’s Business Conference hosted by NAWBO, has been a proud champion of small business since 1915. The company celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015, creating the Small Business Revolution and showcasing 100 small business stories across the country through photo essays, videos and a half-hour documentary. It was a successful start to a movement Deluxe believes will bring even more attention and support to these important and inspiring entrepreneurs and employers nationwide.

Along the way, the company learned that nowhere are small businesses more under siege than in our small towns, and created the Small Business Revolution – Main Street to help those small businesses, and in turn, those small towns, reignite the spark that drives them and keeps people coming back. The company searched for one lucky town to win a $500,000 boost from Deluxe. Out of nearly 10,000 nominations, Wabash, Indiana emerged the winner. To see Wabash’s transformation unfold, watch the nine-episode premiere season of the Small Business Revolution – Main Street.

After five finalists and a weeklong voting period, the public named Bristol Borough, PA, the winner of Season 2 of the Small Business Revolution – Main Street. The team rolled up their sleeves again, met with the town’s leaders and small business owners and got to work on the transformation. Season 2 premiered on September 28, 2017. Learn more here.
