Name: Nancy Ramirez Ayala

Company Name: Blo Blow Dry Bar, Franchise Partner

1) How long have you been in business?

I recently opened the first Blo Blow Dry Bar franchise in Las Vegas.  Blo Blow Dry Bar is North America’s original and largest blow dry bar franchise with nearly 100 locations in the U.S., Canada and the Philippines.

2) How did you get into your business?

After 20 years as an intellectual property attorney, I decided to blaze a new trail with a new career.  Every woman knows that great hair can make them feel invincible, and with all the strong and poised women in my life, this concept was a natural fit.  It was easy to go from client to franchise partner because Blo Blow Dry Bar has such a strong and recognizable brand, as well as exceptional customer service.  I did my research and knew that Blo had a strong franchise system and I wouldn’t be going it alone.  I love delivering a service that makes people happy and the hot pink and sparkle of Blo brings me joy!

3) What is one of your biggest challenges running your business?

2017 has been an incredibly busy year for me.  I had to oversee the build-out of Blo Las Vegas’ modern and chic interior, hire friendly and professional staff who could deliver perfectly styled tresses, and create a fun atmosphere with a Las Vegas twist.  I’ve pushed myself far beyond my comfort zone, but I love the fact that every day brings a new challenge and a chance to say “Wow! I did it.”

4) Tell us about a big achievement in your business and personal life:

Opening the first Blo Blow Dry Bar in Las Vegas this year has been a personal and professional win for me.  Starting a new business is always challenging and scary at times.   But it was totally worth it when my teenage son hugged me during our grand opening and said “mom, I am so proud of you!”

5) Tell us about your family and personal interests/activities:

I currently serve on the board of the Las Vegas Wedding Chamber of Commerce.  This summer I completed the training program with Emerge Nevada, an organization dedicated to recruiting, training and inspiring democratic women to run for office and win.  My husband and three sons help me keep my life balanced, fun and always moving in a positive direction.  I love to read, meditate and spend time with family, friends and my dog, Coco.

6)  What is on your desk?

My laptop is the focal point on my desk, but it’s surrounded by photos of my family and coffee mugs with funny slogans or images from places I’ve visited.  I like to remind myself why I work so hard.

7)  What resources do you use in business?

I believe the key to success is to surround oneself with positive role models and a tribe of like-minded positive people.  My mother-in-law, Donna Ayala, is an incredible business woman who knows how to deliver great service to both tourists and locals.  The people at Blo’s corporate office and the other franchise partners are fantastic.  And, the amazing women of NAWBO?  Well, before I even officially opened the doors to Blo Las Vegas, the ladies at NAWBO were already asking “what can we do to help promote your business?” I’m a lucky lady!

8) What books have you read recently?

I just finished “Girl Code” by Cara Alwill Leyba and I would recommend it to all young female entrepreneurs.  This summer I read “This Fight is our Fight” by Senator Elizabeth Warren.  I absolutely love her!
